The company was founded as VIKING Umwelttechnik under managing director Mag. Heinrich Lechner in Kufstein, Austria. Start of production: 1982, first product: garden shredder

In 1984, the company successfully began development of its own line of lawn mowers.

The entire range of garden tools was renewed after joining the STIHL Group.

Dr. Nikolas Stihl, grandson of the STIHL founder, became the managing director of the company.

In 2001, the company moved from Kufstein to Langkampfen and became a centre of excellence for gardening tools within the STIHL Group.

Expansion continued – construction stage II of the company headquarters was completed on an area of approximately 7,000 m².

Dr. Nikolas Stihl moved to the Executive Board of the STIHL Headquarter in Waiblingen, Germany. Dr. Peter Pretzsch assumed as managing director.

In 2012, construction stage III was completed, providing an additional 16,600 m² of usable floor space.

The Norwegian Pekka Lundefaret set a new world record by reaching a speed of 215 km/h in a converted T6 Series VIKING lawn tractor.

STIHL integrates VIKING and focuses on a single brand from 2019. The entire product range will be switched from VIKING green to STIHL orange.

Clemens Schaller took on the position of managing director from Peter Pretzsch in May. VIKING GmbH became STIHL Tirol GmbH. By the end of 2018, the brand migration was complete.

In 2019, construction stage IV was completed and opened with a usable floor space of ​​20,000 m² - the largest extension of STIHL Tirol to date.

STIHL Tirol opened its own plastics manufacturing facility on an area of ​​3,500 m². This represented an investment of 19 million euros.

Jan Grigor Schubert takes over as the managing director of STIHL Tirol GmbH at the beginning of the year.

In December 2023 STIHL Tyrol oficially opened their new office in Innsbruck in the SOHO 1 building.
